Rochester Commercial Wine Tavern

Rochester Tavern has set a benchmark for convivial refreshment and dining.

A classic Victorian in central Victoria, lovingly restored to its original 1870s magnificence downstairs and tastefully renovated upstairs to accommodate in style. With the best chef in central Victoria, the menu is modern Australian cuisine, and those in the know keep a close eye on the specials board.

A part of the Heathcote wine region, the wine selection features local wineries and varieties, so red wine lovers will have trouble choosing, and there are enough white varieties to satisfy the palate.

The front bar welcomes with its genial staff, wonderful red-gum bar and its intriguing collection of sporting prints. One can settle in well here by the open fire for coffee and cake, or a light lunch from our bar menu all day every day.

Through to the Chloe lounge* – yes – there she presides, all maiden pride, demurely ignoring a delightful, cosy wining and dining area, aglow with another open fire.

Chloe’s neighbour – the “Blue Room”, by contrast, is the largest reception area in Rochester – and airy, spacious lounge / dining / partying room. Named the Blue Room because of its more notorious past where the regular weekend stouch was a part of the old pub’s charm… for some… the closest you will come to “blue” now is the glow of the embers in the fire.

Cigarette? Fresh Air? There are two pleasant options a step away, one of which is the BBQ area, a large paved beer garden featuring a delightful rustic mural and the old peppercorn tree.

Upstairs you’ll find four tastefully renovated ensuite bedrooms and the fabulous balcony overlooking Moore St and the various comings and goings of Rochester life.

The Tavern boasts a tempting wine selection featuring local high-quality varieties from local vignrons.

Always the staff is most obliging, and the guests feel totally spoilt on leaving.

The Tavern – Envy of its Competitors – Well worth a return visit.

My family, friends and I had a lovely meal back in December, traveling from Melbourne to Echuca I didn’t think I would ever find a place with such class, atmosphere and great staff. Jock (bar manger) and Chris (head chef) should know that it is a pleasure to see two people apply so much dedication and effort into a very well run establishment. I enjoyed my visit that much that I will return again in the future, keep up the fantastic work.

    Thank you again

On a recent motorcycle road trip I passed through the tiny Victorian town of Rochester, and stopped at the Rochester Commercial Wine Tavern for lunch. Their veal schnitzel with very garlicky mash and sauteed vegetables was delicious and was exactly what I needed to warm my insides and placate my hunger. And at at $15.50 it was very modestly priced too. If you’re passing through and need a good meal, it comes highly recommended.
